My Story

Erseldine Herndon Bailey was born September 10, 1935 in Wake County, North Carolina to Garland and Bertha Herndon. She departed this life on December 22,2005 at Wake Medical Cary Hospital.
She received her formative education in the Chatham County Public School System, graduating from Horton High School in 1952. She received her BS degree in mathematics from Shaw University in 1956. She received further training at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin; New York University, New York, New York; and North Carolina College, Durham, North Carolina. Erseldine taught mathematics for 39 years in Virginia and North Carolina (Harnett Co. andWake Co. Public School Systems).
She joined the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained a lifetime loyal member. Erseldine was active in numerous organizations, including the State Board of the Womans' Auxiliary of theGeneral Baptist State Convention, North Carolina, Inc., president of the Woman's Auxiliary of the New Hope Baptist Association; a member of the Beta Rho Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; past matron, Silver Leaf Chapter #140, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA; pianist for the New Hope Baptist Association Convention Choir and White Oak Missionary Baptist Senior Choir for more than 60 years. Professional memberships included the National Education Association and North Carolina Association of Educators.
